@SirBill: the power of social media to transform medical education
If William Osler were to visit today the hospitals in Montreal, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Oxford where he taught in the latter part of the 19th century, he would encounter an array of innovations—robotic surgery, genomic sequencing, organ transplantation, to name a few—that formed no part of the medical landscape of his own time. On the other hand, the system of medical education used at those same hospitals would be familiar to Sir William. He would recognise the model of specialist residencies that he (along with the surgeon William Halsted and others) introduced, and he would no doubt be gratified to see t...

Use of 3D Printing for Medical Education Models in Transplantation Medicine: a Critical Review
This article presents a critical-realist review of the medical literature evaluating different ways 3D printing has been used to produce training models for medical education, with a special emphasis on transplantation medicine. From the 68 articles identified by this review, three themes emerged: (a) 3D printing of patient-specific models for preoperative planning, (b) printing training devices for direct use in simulation-based medical education, and (c) printing molds for simulation models that are then used to cast non-printable materials such as soft tissues. Only two reports were identified that described the use of ...

An Iterative Formative Evaluation of Medical Education for Multiple Myeloma Patients Receiving Autologous Stem Cell Transplant
AbstractMultiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable cancer characterized by abnormal plasma cells in the bone marrow, resulting in increased risk of infection. Autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) is the most effective treatment for MM, but successful transplant requires the patient and caregiver to learn and independently implement medical tasks. The Ready for Transplant (R4T) ethnographic-based formative evaluation includes evaluation of ongoing patient education and the addition of novel supplemental educational videos that patients can review before in-person transplant education. To evaluate R4T, a formative evaluation in...

Knowledge and Attitude of People With or Without a Medical Education Regarding Organ Donation and Transplant: A Sample From the City of Baghdad.
CONCLUSIONS: Iraqi people are moderately informed about organ donation and transplant. Medically educated people demonstrated an attitude of greater acceptance. Religion and social beliefs were not barriers to organ donation in the study sample. Regulated governmental application of incentive programs may be a useful strategy at present. Achieving Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education duty hours compliance within advanced surgical training: a simulation-based feasibility assessment
Conclusions The variable nature of emergency cases inevitably leads to work hour violations under ACGME regulations. Unpredictable cases mandate higher operative volume to ensure achievement of adequate caseloads. Publically available simulation technology provides a valuable avenue to identify adequacy of case volumes for trainees in both the elective and emergency setting. Graphical abstract

Indian J Med Res. 2020 Nov;152(5):468-474. doi: 10.4103/ijmr.IJMR_404_20.ABSTRACTThis document aims to assist oncologists in making clinical decisions encountered while managing their patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), specific to Indian practice, based on consensus among experts.
